A gaunt Matthew McConaughey shows off his diminished frame in a stark photoshoot

He used to flex his impressive muscles in glamorous photoshoots for fashion magazines and aftershave campaigns. Now he just looks like a gaunt shadow of his former self after shedding 40lbs for his latest movie The Dallas Buyers club, in which he plays HIV victim Ron Woodroof.

While making the film, Matt posed for these pictures for W magazine thereby showcasing the true extent of his weight loss. Wearing a blue suit, the harsh lighting in the snaps marks a stark contrast from the kind of photos he used to pose.

The publication photographed 33 other leading actors/actresses from the last year for their February issue, all of whom have been snapped in a similarly unforgiving manner. The editor of W Magazine hopes the pictures reflect the increasing “shift away from Hollywood glamour.”

Since this photoshoot, McConaughey has wrapped up filming on The Dallas Buyers Club and has began piling on the pounds again – thankfully.
