The plot: It’s safe to say that a few film-critic eyebrows were raised when it was announced there would be a movie starring Keith Lemon. After all, we can’t think of many major motion pictures built round a character best known for hosting a TV comedy panel show. But, of course, Celebrity Juice happens to be one of the most popular shows on any digital channel ever, and has been a heat
fave ever since it launched. Perhaps the biggest reason for greenlighting this project is the incredible success of last year’s The Inbetweeners Movie. If an E4 sitcom can be turned into a £45million box-office phenomenon, then why the hell not give Keith a go? Sadly, the film’s distributors haven’t screened it in time for a proper review, probably surmising that in-depth critical analysis isn’t the top priority for this particular release. To be fair, that strategy worked for The Inbetweeers. As for the story, it’s something to do with him splitting from his girlfriend (Aikman, as seen in the recent spoof Reality TV series Lemon Da Vida Loca) and falling for Kelly Brook (playing herself).
What’s right with it? From the bits and pieces we’ve seen, it’s going to have lashings of the raunchy humour and shockingly rude celebrity interaction, which has made Celebrity Juice such a reliably entertaining show.
What’s wrong with it? Let’s face it: movie projects featuring iconic British TV comedy characters can go either way . The Inbetweeners was brilliant. Ali G Indahouse was awful. And we loved Ali G.
Verdict: Frankly, we’re a tad suspicious that we haven’t been able to see the film pri
