Daphne Guinness ordered to pay damages for bath floods

Guinness reportedly let her bath overflow on three separate occasions causing hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of water damage to her downstairs neighbours' £7.6 million ($12 million) apartment in the former Stanhope Hotel building in New York's Upper East Side.

The owners of the affected apartment, hedge fund manager Karim Samii and his wife Tina, had asked for £617,000 ($1 million) for the "mental anguish and emotional distress" caused by the flooding, as well as requesting that Guinness, an heiress and fashion collector, be banned from taking baths in her apartment. Both bids were rejected by the judge, and instead Guinness was ordered to pay an undisclosed amount in damages.

"All I have ever wanted is to make amends and make this right. I've always been happy to pay for their damage, and have already been doing so," Guinness told the New York Post following the verdict. "I would never intentionally flood their apartment. I by no means want to be a bad neighbour. I have totally waterproofed the place and now it is the safest apartment in New York."
