Scent-free self tanning: how to get the glow without the smell

The clever people behind the best self tan brands, namely Xen Tan and St.Tropez, have worked hard to make our tanning lives easier by taking that tell-tale smell out, or at least masking what is essentially the smell of the DHA tanning agent reacting with our skin, with something a little less baked-biscuit like.

First up is St. Tropez, st-tropez.com , whose line up of self tanners all contain what they call the AromaGuard, and what we call a very pretty blend of flowers thank you very much.

Xen Tan gets extra marks for not only taking the smell out of its own glow giving line up, but for also taking the smell out of any other brand offering with their Xen-Tan Scent Secure, £24.99, xen-tan.co.uk . Essentially a moisturiser with benefits, this works under or over any self tan to mask any scent.

If it's a professional tan you're after, Sienna X, from £20, sienna-x.co.uk , is one of the more subtly scented, while the two minute Mystic Tan Booth (trust us, booths have moved on) at Heidi Klein, £28.50, heidiklein.com , even has a fragrance masking-menu. Our advice is to go for the holiday-inspired coconut and lime option which makes your tan smell even more convincing too.
