Alexander McQueen Designer Sarah Burton Collects OBE And Reveals She'd Like To Design Maternity Wear For Kate Middleton

Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton collected her OBE from Buckingham Palace yesterday after being named in the Queen's 2012 Birthday Honour's List. The Cheshire-born designer, who took creative control of the label after founder Lee McQueen took his own life in 2010 was responsible for creating the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress for last year's royal extravaganza. Kate has also worn Alexander McQueen pieces for public appearances and official receptions, including a tartan dress on a visit to St Andrew's School last month and a white and gold evening gown on her official tour of South East Asia in September.

 

Burton received her OBE from Prince Charles yesterday and she revealed that she and HRH "talked a little about the dress and I said congratulations for the Duke and Duchess, I'm over the moon for them." Asked if she was going to be designing any maternity wear for the DoC she confessed "I hope I will be".

The designer herself is currently pregnant with twins and Grazia Daily speculated last week that her own maternity style might offer a little inspiration for Kate's wardrobe. While not ditching the heels, Burton  has been spotted wearing a lot of black, as well as cropped jackets and a bag to cover her bump. Kate wasn't the only royal who she praised yesterday. Speaking about Prince Charles to PA she said "I think he's got an amazing sense of style and has quite a history with Savile Row and has impeccable taste."
