The Australian radio hosts who pranked hospital staff into giving out details on Kate Middleton’s medical condition have been suspended.

The DJs are removing themselves from the airwaves after the receptionist who put the call through to another nurse because she believed Queen Elizabeth was on the phone, is said to have committed suicide.

Southern Cross Austereo, the company that owns the station, released the folowing statement:

"SCA and 2Day FM are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha from King Edward VII’s Hospital.

"SCA and the hosts have decided that they will not return to their radio show until further notice out of respect for what can only be described as a tragedy."

It goes on to explain that the CEO has spoken with both of the DJs, 2Day FM’s Mel Greig and Michael Christian, who are both "deeply shocked" over the sad death.
