Eva Mendes on her red carpet disasters

In our top five list of Women We'd Most Like to Look Like, actress Eva Mendes ranks very highly. With Cuban genes to thank for her perennially-warm skintone, dark eyes and brunette tresses, her DNA has helped her snag one of the hottest men in Hollywood: Ryan Gosling.

Refreshingly, the normally picture-perfect 39-year-old says she is the first to point out unflattering photos or laugh at herself when she's made a "horrible" fashion choice.

In an interview with the Associated Press, the We Own the Night star revealed what she considers to be one of her more unfortunate looks.

She recalls: "About six years ago I went to the Ghost Rider premiere in New York City and it was cold and snowing - I don't know why I'm sharing that, I think I'm trying to justify - and I had my dress on but I had to finish my hair and make-up in the back of an SUV…" She continues: "It was a beautiful dress, but the way I put everything together, it was a Princess Jasmine gone wrong. The strapless, purple dress with necklaces and hair in a really high braid. It's not a good look."

Sadly we can't unearth who the dress was by, but if that's what she considers to be one of her worst red carpet looks, then we think she's doing OK in the grand scheme of things.

Dishing about her everyday style, she's refreshingly down-to-earth. "We all have our days when we feel great and want to look great, and then we have our days where we just want to be in our sweats or our jeans or our sweats equivalent and throw our hair up in a bun or a cap." Her penchant for headscarves, which she's often snapped walking around her native Los Angeles wearing, comes from them being "an easy way to not deal with bad hair and it adds a little bit of elegance."

Due to launch her first foray into fashion design with American retailer New York & Company later this year, Mendes explains how she comes "family where the women are more voluptuous so I like to cater to that."
