Frank Ocean: Fashion Weeks new Kanye West?

Egomaniacal hip hopster Kanye West has had his hands full - literally, with pregnant fiancé Kim Kardashian and occupationally, spending all of his touring downtime trying to erase evidence of himself wearing a Givenchy leather kilt . The 35-year-old lyrical whiz was so preoccupied finding matching suits for himself and KK at Paris Fashion Week that he failed to notice a rather stylish newcomer bump him off front row best dressed lists.

Hailing from the same rapper crop as West, Frank Ocean - who sings on Kanye and Jay Z's Watch the Thrown album - hit Paris Fashion Week with the gusto seen by artists who have previously seen the high-fashion light at the end of the hip hop scene (NB: Tinie Tempah, Pharrell Williams, Kanye).

Taking in the Dior, Givenchy, Margiela, Chanel and Valentino shows, Frank - real name Christopher Francis Ocean - took a decidedly low key approach to PFW. Instead of bejewelled Maison Martin Margeila face masks or man skirts, Frank gave Paris chic white shirts and woollen Dior garbadine pants (Frank also wore Dior to last month's Grammy's), Givenchy jersey, camo pants and P.A.M. T-shirts. And ("quelle horror!," cried Kanye), just two pairs of Nike trainers.

And despite acknowledging Karl Lagerfeld as "the MAN" and the "double-bag hip thing" at Chanel as "pretty fly", the 25-year-old won't be persuaded out of his graphic Tees anytime soon. "I don't wear women's clothes," Ocean responded to The Hollywood Reporter' s probing query as to whether Frank might take a leaf out of Kanye's I-like-to-wear-Celine-blouses-at-festivals book.

"What about the leather pants and chunky knits that male model Baptiste Giabiconi was wearing?" THR asked. Even those looked like women's clothes to Frank.

Whether the Channel Orange singer will tempt Kanye back to the masculine modes of fashion - we're betting he's still a tad bruised after the skirt jibes made by Lord Jamar - remains to be seen. Until then, we're banking Frank as an early addition to our Best Dressed Men of 2013 list.
