Thierry Mugler back in the frame at his eponymous label

Following the departure of creative director Nicola Formichetti last month, and as the brand prepares to mark its 40th anniversary next year, a restructuring at fashion label Thierry Mugler is firmly underway.

The 64-year-old designer is the new creative advisor to Joël Palix, the president of Clarins Fragrance Group and director general of Thierry Mugler SAS. With the head designers for the menswear and womenswear no longer at the house, Palix told WWD that it is "time to unite both activities under one single creative management and turn Mugler into a global and fully integrated luxury brand with a synergetic approach across fashion, accessories and fragrances."

Since 1992 French-born Mugler had been the artistic director of his brand's perfume division, creating the visionary Angel fragrance, which is in the top women's scents worldwide and caused a sensation when it was launched thanks to its combination of chocolate and patchouli bottled in a blue hue. In 2002 he left the fashion arm of his house to focus on photography and stage costumes, capturing the ad campaigns for his label's fragrances and creating visionary outfits for singer Beyoncé and Dita Von Teese.

"[The] Thierry Mugler brand has an undeniably audacious heritage, which means we must always innovate, create something new, daring and special," said Palix, calling Mugler a "legend of fashion and fragrance."

Formichetti, a highly influential stylist and fashion director to Lady Gaga, re-branded the company name to simply Mugler and introduced menswear during his two-and-a-half-year tenure.

It is thought that Mr Mugler will continue to work on additional projects, such as writing and directing theatrical shows, one of which is scheduled for the end of the year in Paris.
