Today is One Day Without Shoes Day With TOMS Shoes, Stooshe And Many More!
Girl band Stooshe pose at the TOMS and District MTV party
Today, April 16th 2013, is no ordinary day. Nope. It’s the sixth annual Day Without Shoes, as decreed by ethical shoe and eyewear brand, TOMS.
The initiative, which is supported by celebs and fashion types all over the world, encourages its participants to go barefoot for one day, to raise awareness of issues of children’s health and education.
This year's One Day Without Shoes launched last night with a suitably trendy bash in London’s Covent Garden, where the brand has a pop up shop on Monmouth Street. Bluey Robinson sang live and charmed the ladies, while everyone from Stooshe and London's young fashionable things took part in the One Day photobooth - with the prints going straight up on their Gallery wall.
It couldn't be easier to get involved yourself. You can take part through the medium of social media, by posting a pic of you in your bare feet on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #withoutshoes - You could end up being printed out at the TOMS pop-up space in Covent Garden, creating an ongoing exhibition of the world’s support for One Day Without Shoes.

OR you could join the march around Covent Garden, if you live in London and are available at 7pm tonight. Together with District MTV, TOMS are going on a barefoot walk at 15 Monmouth Street, Covent Garden at 6pm, where a walk to the Seven Dials will commence at 7pm.
This campaign is all about one thing: providing help for children lacking access to education and good health struggle to break the poverty cycle. As well as helping as a preventative measure against diseases such as hookworm and tetanus, many schools in rural developing nations require students to have shoes to attend, so not having shoes is a roadblock to opportunity. By providing these children with shoes and school uniform, TOMS can encourage a child to stay in school; meeting their basic needs as part of a deeper engagement in education, building their confidence and self esteem, and opening them up to more opportunities in life.
For every pair of shoes bought in TOMS, a child in need gets a pair themselves - hence the company motto - One For One. If you'd like to know more, visit OneDayWithoutShoes.com
