How Karl Lagerfeld would dress the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge

Karl Lagerfeld has spoken of his desire the dress the Duchess of Cambridge a number of times, but the stylish royal is yet to wear any of his Chanel creations, instead favouring British designers, like Alexander McQueen and Jenny Packham, and high street favourites, like Reiss and Topshop.

But that hasn't stopped Mr Lagerfeld from trying. His latest attempt to woo the mother-to-be is to design her a custom-made maternity dress.

The scribble is part of a WWD feature in which the publication asked numerous designers to sketch maternity pieces they would like to see the Duchess wear as she approaches her final two months of pregnancy.

"I think this dress is very much in her taste," comments Lagerfeld on the light navy blue, tail-hem dress, complete with cleavage exposing cut out. Hmm, we think not. It looks a little more Marie Antoinette than maternity, but then again, this is the man who wanted to see the Duchess in a Victorian-style, open-fronted wedding dress complete with knee-high boots.

Other designers to create fantasy pieces include French fashion house Chloé, who imagined the Duchess in a sophisticated frilled peach number, Amanda Wakeley, who created a draped bottle-green cocktail dress with embellished shoulders, and Vera Wang.
