Christopher Kane hints at leather goods expansion

Christopher Kane may be about to join the luxury leather goods market now that he has the backing of Kering, the luxury fashion conglomerate formerly known as PPR.
"I'd love to see a Christopher Kane bag, a staple bag that could carry on for five years, 10 years," the Scottish designer told WWD . "We have a rich archive of leathers and fabrics that could easily fall into a bag category."
Though Kane has previously produced a small selection of leather goods - namely his popular neon lace and 'Liquid' clutch bags - and some shoes, it seems he's hoping to move into the big leagues and offer accessories in a similar way to his Kering stablemates Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen.

The London-based designer says the prospect of producing leather goods is "so exciting", but that he and creative director sister Tammy aren't in a hurry. "Everyone knows that me and Tammy take things slow. It's going to be a constant investigation - and if the product's not right, we'll hold off."
So we may have to wait a few seasons to see Kane's bound-to-be-a-hit 'It bag', but no doubt it will be worth it. Better start saving now.
